ABSTRACT:

In an increasingly interconnected world, access to knowledge has become a fundamental pillar for the realization of human rights and the promotion of global equity. This paper explores how unequal access to information, education, and digital resources continues to deepen existing socio-economic disparities across and within nations. While international human rights frameworks recognize the right to education and the freedom of information, their practical implementation remains uneven, particularly in developing regions.

The research critically examines the structural factors that restrict access to knowledge, including the digital divide, high costs of educational resources, and rigid intellectual property regimes. These barriers disproportionately affect marginalized communities, limiting their ability to participate fully in economic, political, and cultural life. The paper also highlights the paradox of the digital age where technological advancements have expanded the availability of information, yet access to such resources remains highly unequal.

Further, the study evaluates the role of states, international institutions, and private entities in shaping knowledge systems. It argues for a rights-based approach that prioritizes inclusive policies, open-access platforms, and equitable distribution of technological infrastructure. Emphasis is placed on the need to reform global knowledge governance to ensure that information is treated as a public good rather than a privileged commodity.

The paper concludes that achieving global equity requires more than technological progress; it demands a commitment to justice, inclusivity, and the democratization of knowledge. Ensuring universal access to knowledge is not only essential for individual empowerment but also for fostering sustainable development and a more just global society.
