Voice Cloning In Game Mods: Navigating Performer’s Rights And SGI Compliance in the age Of Generative AI
Abstract
The blistering evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has generated additional opportunities of generating and transforming digital media, particularly within the gaming position. Voice cloning in game mods is one of the most up-and-coming trends, in which AI technology is capable of re-creating or imitating the voice of a person and placing it in video games. Although this innovation makes the process more creative and engaging to the user, it also generates significant legal and ethical issues, especially in terms of the right of performers and adherence to the Safe Generative AI (SGI) standards. This research paper is an attempt to actualize the legal issues surrounding the use of AI voice cloning to modify games. It dwells upon the fact that the voices of actors, in particular voice actors, could be utilized without their consent that could result in the infringement of their rights. Another idea discussed in the study is the rights of performers, which involve the right to control, give approval, and perform just remunerations on the use of the voice and performance. This study is conducted through the doctrinal research methodology since this is realized after analyzing the existing laws, legal principles, scholarly documents, and the new rules of AI in various jurisdictions. It is revealed that the existing legal systems are not completely equipped to deal with the peculiarities of the problems posed by imitation of voices generated with the help of AI. There are no obvious guidelines concerning the proprietorship of synthetic voices and the necessity of consent to using the voice to create the content in a game. The paper also emphasizes the significance of SGI compliance that will enhance responsible and ethical use of generative AI resources. It posits that greater legal safeguarding, open consent provisions and revised intellectual property rights would be required to safeguard the digital era performers.AI voice cloning may represent a valuable opportunity in the development of games; it should be controlled to provide a reasonable balance between innovation and the rights of the performer.
